Mare Nostrum takes centre stage at Ostuni Design Weekend

At the third edition of Ostuni Design Weekend, Abet and Matteo Ragni brought the SurfInBench to the heart of the Valle d’Itria: a seat that takes the silhouette of a surfboard and turns it into a place for encounter, rest and contemplation. An object designed to inhabit the open spaces of Mediterranean summers, adaptable to different contexts, from water sports schools to outdoor events.

The structure was clad with Fetch, one of the six patterns from the Mare Nostrum collection. The decor, whose name evokes the stretch of sea surface on which the wind blows unobstructed, translates into a rhythmic and immersive texture. Alongside Fetch, the collection includes five further patterns inspired by the marine world: Papersail, Islands, Net, Octopus and Shark, each a geometric and abstract reinterpretation of elements from the Mediterranean.

With Mare Nostrum, Ragni builds a reflection on the sea as a collective heritage: a symbol of vitality, biodiversity and exchange, but also a fragile ecosystem. A commitment made even more concrete in the choice of material: the collection is made in Re-Abet, a laminate produced with 100% post-consumer recycled kraft paper, a tangible expression of Abet Laminati’s dedication to more conscious and sustainable design.
