For SICAM 2024 Abet Laminati focuses on Velwood and Work in Progress

The International Exhibition of Components, Accessories and Semi-finished Products for the Furniture Industry has always been an important event for Abet Laminati; at the SICAM 2024 edition, the company presented two important novelties: the new Velwood finish and “Work in Progress”, the collection inspired by the city and its constant changes, created in collaboration with designer Mario Scairato.

“Work in Progress” is a narrative of the Milan I have experienced daily since 2012, the year it became my home and workplace.”

This is how Scairato describes the genesis of this latest work and the birth of the graphic signs that distinguish it. A common thread running through the designer’s production is the investigation into traditional knowledge and materials, which also emerges in this new collection of 10 decors in different colour variants. Elements as simple as those we can see on a building site: a net, pipes and bricks become the basis for a work with a strong visual impact and a precise use of colour.

“For a designer, everything can gain meaning if placed within a design context. The designer’s gaze sees and foresees simultaneously”.

For Giulio Iacchetti and Matteo Ragni, design curators at Abet Laminati, “Work in Progress” is also a moment of reflection on the role of the designer in the contemporary world. Through his work it is possible to reinvent and redefine objects: even the simplest and most common things take on the dignity of a subject and become the focus of new reflections.
Innovation, creativity and design were the keys to this 15th edition of the International Exhibition where Abet Laminati was among the protagonists. In terms of innovation, in fact, “Work in Progress” stands out not only for its strong visual impact but also for the material chosen for this collection. Abet Laminati has always adopted a series of behaviours and processes aimed at reducing its environmental impact. Based on this philosophy comes Re-Abet, it is a laminate composed of 100% recycled kraft paper that characterises the “Work in Progress” collection.

Visitors were greeted in the Pordenone exhibition space by a large letter “A” made up of hundreds of small samples of the new Velwood finish.
Abet Laminati takes another step forward on aesthetic and tactile possibilities associated with laminate. Velwood, developed by Giulio Iacchetti and Matteo Ragni in collaboration with the Abet Research and Marketing Centre, offers new possibilities to designers who are looking for natural material effects. The tactile values of velvet and the depth of wood find a synthesis in this new finish that when applied to solid colours is capable of generating innovative colour scenarios.
SICAM confirms itself as the most important Italian event in the sector, the best occasion where customers and suppliers can meet and above all they can touch the physicality of the materials on offer. For anyone who visited the Abet Laminati exhibition space, this tactile encounter with the new finish certainly marked a new milestone for laminate sheet.
